Today we are officially launching the Poe API to all developers. Details in thread below! Image
As we mentioned in our initial launch of Poe back in December, from the beginning of Poe, our intent has been to provide technology to enable broad access to LLM-based services, analogous to how the web browser enabled broad access to internet services.
We expect a diverse ecosystem of LLM-based services to soon exist, with applications like tutoring, language learning, role playing, psychological support, socializing, games, coaching, and much more.
We want Poe to enable anyone building a chat-based service on top of LLMs to easily reach a large audience around the world without having to build their own user interfaces.
In our view, Poe has been quite limited so far in that the only language models available have been from a few providers: Anthropic, OpenAI, and Neeva.
We now are enabling all developers to build bots on Poe, including both customers of Anthropic and OpenAI who are building more complex products on top of their models, other AI companies who are training their own language models, or anyone using LLMs from other sources.
There is an incredible explosion happening in open source LLMs. We think the democratization of the ability to train LLMs will benefit society by limiting concentration of power, and by allowing people to have the choice of models that share their values.
As a developer, supporting Poe is very easy. We created a simple protocol to talk to bots that runs over HTTP, and we have sample code for you to get started. We also have integrations built with Langchain and LlamaIndex.
Benefits that come from building an AI application on Poe include: distribution to millions of people already using Poe, native applications across all platforms (Android is almost ready) for the best user experience, persistent history, cross-platform sync, ...
... and other supporting features so you can focus just on what's unique to your application. We provide easy tools for people to share the output from your bot to drive growth, and feedback from users (likes and dislikes) that you can use to improve your product.
We will also be enabling monetization in the future. On top of all this, by building on Poe you will be attaching yourself to a platform that is growing quickly and will continue to get better at a rapid pace.
We are heavily investing in adding features and will be prioritizing the top requests from developers. You can get started by reading the documentation on our Github at github.com/poe-platform/a… .
Please remember that our API is targeted at developers who know how to write at least a small amount of code. For those who don’t, we have a separate way to create a bot on Poe based on a simple prompt, which is accessible at poe.com/create_bot.
Thank you all and please share any feedback. We are very excited to see what this platform enables now that it is open to the world!

AI is going to enable the creation and enforcement of laws 1000x as complex as we have today. This is mostly a good thing.
Today's human-limited complexity means new laws often benefit 60% of people but are worse for the other 40% and it is a huge fight to make any progress. With AI-enabled unlimited complexity, "pareto" laws can be negotiated and passed that benefit every single member of society.
One AI system working on behalf of a politician will go conduct interviews and deeply understand what everyone's preferences are and what would benefit them, and find a way to make everyone happy at once.

Today we are launching Poe subscriptions, which will provide paying users with access to bots based on two powerful new language models: GPT-4 from OpenAI and Claude+ from Anthropic. Image
GPT-4 is a major advance relative to ChatGPT and is the most powerful language model available to the world today. It is particularly strong at creative writing, problem solving, and instruction following. For example, GPT-4 solves this 2023 AIME (math contest) problem correctly. Image
Claude+ is significantly better than Claude, especially in non-English languages. In English, it generates more in-depth answers than Claude as well. Poe is currently the only consumer internet product with either Claude or Claude+ available. Image

We are excited to launch Poe for desktop today at poe.com. With this launch, between our existing iOS app this new web interface, we believe Poe is now the fastest and easiest way to talk to AI across iOS and all desktop platforms. Image
Poe currently supports ChatGPT from OpenAI (at poe.com/chatgpt), Claude from Anthropic (at poe.com/claude), and a few other AI-powered bots. Support for many more will be coming over the next few months. A few things make Poe unique today:
1. Speed: Poe is the fastest interface to ChatGPT, and all other bots are very fast, thanks to some significant speed improvements over the last few weeks.

Pattern matching AI as "the next platform shift" like the PC/internet/smartphone leads to significant underestimates of its potential.
Those previous technologies ultimately effectively reduced friction for people to communicate and collaborate. But for almost all applications, the impact of the technology was limited by the fact that a human had to be in the loop.
Amdahl's law says that optimizing one part of a system can only improve the system by the amount that part is responsible for. You may speed up part of a process by 1000x by moving it to software...

Today, we are opening up public access to a new AI product we have been building called Poe. Poe lets people ask questions, get instant answers, and have back-and-forth conversations with several AI-powered bots. (1/n) Image
It is initially available on iOS, but we will be adding support for all major platforms in the next few months, along with more bots. The best way to learn about Poe is to try it at poe.com, but read on below if you’re curious about why we’re building it. (2/n)
As you may have observed through developments in image and text generation over the last year, researchers are making incredible progress toward creating human-level AI. And this progress is accelerating. (3/n)

It's common in in-person meetings to "go around the room" and have everyone share their view on a topic. This is much harder over Zoom since everyone sees the group in a different order, and eye contact doesn't work. My thoughts:
Zoom should add a feature for a person running the meeting to organize this. It could let them choose an order for others and then guide the group through the process, with a number over each person's video to show the order, and highlighting to show whose turn it currently is.
People could explicitly tell Zoom to move on when it was the end of their turn, or the moderator could override it. The person who is "up next" might get a special alert.
